Smart adaptation of COVID-19 for Rural People’s need in Georgia

The aim of the project is to enhance capacities of farmers’ cooperatives to adapt to COVID-19 situation and increase their resilience in future pandemics.

The specific objectives of the project are:

  1. To support cooperatives’ in effective remote mode operation by providing access to online learning and developing online media skills.
  2. Increase the awareness of cooperatives to adopt the best safety practice to protect operation during the COVID-19, including new regulation and standards by National Food Agency.
  3. Increase linkages to output markets through developing the online platforms and building the effective communication with existing platforms

At the end of the project, cooperative members will become able to adapt easily to the new realities caused by COVID-19, by adopting online ways of working through ICT technologies and increasing access to new information, market opportunities and farming/processing methods. The project will do firstly increasing access and skills of the cooperative members in using online technologies. Through improving ICT knowledge, cooperatives will gain access to new learning opportunities though online courses and meetings about farming/processing methods, new standards and regulations to ensure the smooth continuation of their business operations. As a last component, farmers will be linked to new markets and business opportunities, through online sales platforms. The project will achieve more stable distribution by facilitating online selling of agricultural products and efficient communication channel with potential clients.

Introducing the model of hybrid solar driers for fruits, vegetables, herbs and NTFPs

The project aims to reduce poverty in rural communities by implementing renewable and affordable technologies to lessen environmental degradation, increase agricultural output and provide economic opportunity to wider population.

Specific objectives of the project are to:

  • Increase and strengthen awareness on energy efficient technologies, climate change impacts, resilient livelihoods and opportunities for sustainable development through utilization of RET as governing institutions as well as overall population.
  • Generate new employment and income opportunities for rural population, particularly for rural women and youth through the application of Hybrid Solar Dryers for Fruits, Berries and Vegetable
  • Develop skills and capacities of community members particularly women and youth in utilization of renewable energy resources (Solar) and sustainable use of existing agricultural and forest resources.
